I was checking out the Compassion Forum, particularly the sections on abortion and euthanasia and I quite liked Obama's answers (shock and surprise). Rather than limit this (what I hope to be a debate) to that one issue though, I'd like to know what your "one issue" is, if you have one. What is your deal breaker for a candidate. Mine is, if they don't like Bruce Willis movies and possibly support for the war in Iraq.
All other things being equal what would keep you from voting for someone?

Moderation: don't want a radical thinking wacko ... want someone who can compromise and find the middle ground.

A promise to abolish, or severely restrict, the space program. That would trump ANYTHING else and I would immediate donate money to the promiser's opponent.

You almost got me, Patrick. I read the first half and was about to say (out loud, at work), "WTF?!?" Then I read the rest and almost choked on my tea.

Education. My ideal candidate will support teachers financially and allows them to teach their class. NCLB has made it impossible for teachers to teach effectively. No wonder we're lagging behind the rest of the world. And no wonder our drop-out rates are terrifyingly high.
What would disqualify them: forcing religion onto the people, a la Huckabee. If a politician starts talking about teaching ID in the classroom or amending the Constitution to "reflect the word of god," they are out.
