Scott [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Totally agree on the stamp thing.

Oh and religion isn't a crutch for everyone.

Scott [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Also, Bill is indeed bitter, so much so that he's no longer as funny as he used to be.

Dan [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Bill was on MSNBC a couple of years ago, and said:

"We are a nation that is unenlightened because of religion. I do believe that. I think that religion stops people from thinking. I think it justifies crazies. I think flying planes into a building was a faith-based initiative. I think religion is a neurological disorder. "

and

"When you look at beliefs in such things as, do you go to heaven, is there a devil, we have more in common with Turkey and Iran and Syria than we do with European nations and Canada and nations that, yes, I would consider more enlightened than us."

His hostility towards (any) organized religion is not a new thing.

Patrick [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Dan, Maher has been anti-religion for the bulk of his career. This is not new stuff. That's like saying Bush is pro-oil. There's just no dispute here.

Toby [TypeKey Profile Page]:

In fact, he has a new movie coming out: Religiulous. (A combination of Religious and Ridiculous.

Scott [TypeKey Profile Page]:

My only point was the man has gotten more bitter and that he's no longer (generally) funny. Jon Stewart is going the same way.

Stewart's much better, but he's been letting his emotions run a little rampant lately. I think he's actually just getting tired of it all, and wishes he could do something on HBO LIKE Maher did. If that came true, it would be a total hit, but he would fall very quickly into the pit that Bill's got himself into.

Bill Maher has also been pushing the vegetarian and all-natural medicine thing a lot more lately, making himself look like a real kook. I believe whole-heartedly in organics and non-processed foods, but medicine is a necessary thing nowadays. To intentionally stay away from it is ludacris.

Also, back to politics and religion. Maher has become a moderate activist lately. Every show lately, he's been firing off shots toward the Christians, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and anyone else you can imagine. Some is funny, only because you know how much hate mail he's going to get from it.

Toby [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Well, I suppose it falls on me to defend Maher. To a point. I'll say straight up that I agree that he pushes the medicine a bit far.

But, he does have a point. Americans have become far too dependent on medication. It seems there is a pill out there for everything, which has some side-effect, which is cured by another pill, which has some side-effect, etc., etc. While he takes it too far, Maher tries raises our consciousness level. Personally, I DO try to stay away from medicine as much as possible. Sure, I'll pop some pills for a headache or what not, but it's definitely last resort. (Also, I've never been to a doctor for anything but shots. *knocks on wood*)

As far as religion goes, as a non-believer, I love his commentary on religion! But I suppose I am in his target-audience.

And it's no wonder Maher and Stewart are bitter. The jokes about strategery are no longer funny. This administration is a lot more scary now than it is funny. It seems they just want this administration to end so they can get back to being funny again.
