Can he pull off the upset?

At this moment, only two counties remain to be counted in Indiana. NBC has been holding out on calling the election for Clinton because of those two counties, Lake and Union. Union county, a rural, white county with just over 7,000 people. Lake county, however, has an 25% black population of over 485,000 people (including Gary, IN, a predominantly black city with 85%).

Hillary just addressed her people claiming victory in Indiana, thanking the people for giving her the "opportunity" to continue on to the convention.

Fingers are crossed that Lake county can pull up the 4% points needed for Obama to break her and ruin her "victory" speech.

Update:
NBC just called Indiana for Clinton by a razor-thin margin (likely under 15K votes). The interesting thing about tonight is that she seems to have canceled all of her public events for Wednesday. Didn't Romney do that right before he pulled out?

After the huge loss in NC and narrow victory in IN, I think it's time that Clinton starts working towards a graceful exit that unifies the party behind Obama.

Clinton may be doing just that. In her victory speech in Indiana, she said, "...I can assure you that no matter what happens I will work for the nominee of the Democratic party." That was step one. Next, I think she's going to take the temperature of the undecided super delegates and make a decision within a few weeks based on what she hears from them.

Yeah but she also said that she was on a fast track to the WH or something like that.

Of course. She's still in the election. I'm pointing out that she's begun hedging her statements in case she has to drop out. It's at least public acknowledgment that it's a possibility. I don't think dropping out suddenly is a good tactic.

For once it seems, I agree with you Sid.

Although I yearn for the day she concedes the nomination to Obama, a sudden announcement wouldn't be prudent with the rhetoric she's been shoveling over the past few months. If she dropped out immediately and then right away started fighting FOR him, it would make her look even more insincere and false-hearted than she already does, maybe even driving more voters away from the Democratic party.

Faking it to avoid looking like she's faking it? Wow, that's a new level of deception.

Well, it seems that we might already be seeing a cleaner campaign (see here: http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_plank/archive/2008/05/07/a-different-kind-of-campaign.aspx ). So, though it looks like she won't drop out right away, perhaps we will see a more civilized discourse; one that highlights their differences with John McCain, rather than each other.

Does anyone 'fake it' while trying to look like they are faking it? I suppose comedians do.

Patrick [TypeKey Profile Page]:

After the last few months, I won't believe it until I see it. I doubt she's got the mettle to take the Huckabee route and "support without officially supporting" Obama while still scheming a way to usurp the nomination from him at the convention.
